The Derbyshire Ornithological Society Records Database Project

Are you a DOS member, do you live in Derby, do you have a couple of hours a month free and a PC with Access?

Then you can help us as a data input volunteer.

The DOS Records database now has over 325,000 records with around 50,000 new records added each year. It is used extensively by the Society for production of the Derbyshire Bird Report and generation of much needed income by supplying data to Environmental bodies.

The data entry is carried out by a team of dedicated volunteers, each giving around two hours per month of their time.

Data entry is carried out on a Microsoft Access database written by us. It contains a number of labour saving innovations to speed the process.

We now have at least two vacancies for additional volunteer data inputters. You will need a PC with a version of Access (it does not matter which version) - we supply the program and full training will be given. Unfortunately, we cannot accept volunteers who live outside of Derby because of the logistics in getting record slips to you.

Please give some serious thought to helping us in the this vitally important project. You will also gain a wider knowledge of birds within the County and the best places to visit.
