DOS Gazetteer of Derbyshire Place Names



Ever wondered where a place mentioned in the Bulletin or Derbyshire Bird Report is? Ask the Gazetteer!

There are over 4000 places listed on the database and it was set up for use with the DOS Records Database and originally compiled by Steve Shaw and Roy Frost. The records are listed 25 at a time and you can navigate through the list using the buttons provided.

You can also search for a site or for sites within a 1km grid square. If you enter Derby for example, it will list all entries starting with Derby. Searches are also case sensitive - "derby" gives no matches, "Derby" does.

If you click on the grid reference shown in blue, you will be taken to a MultiMap page with the site shown on the relevant 50,000 OS Map and the red circle should be close to the target. By using the scale zoom and arrow controls on the left of the MultiMap screen, you can investigate further. Happy browsing!
