Rod Key comments "This is only the third time that 4 Iceland Gulls have been in a county roost together. Not surprisingly both previous occurences in Jan 1984 and Februsry 1996 were at Ogston Reservoir"

20 January: Ogston Res (SK3760) 3 Iceland Gulls roosted-an adult and 2 first winters along with the first winter Glaucous Gull. For anybody who wants to see these "northern" Gulls now is the time to go to this site and see them amongst an impressive large roost.

20 January: Carsington Water (SK2552) The juv. Great Northern Diver still present on Jan 19th but could not be found on Jan 20th. The Black Necked Grebe still present from Paul Stanley Hide but it is now getting quite ekusive.

20 January: Swarkestone (SK3527) The 2 Eurasian White Fronted Geese still present amongst the large flock of Grey Lag Geese. Also at least 2 Egyptian Geese still present.


19 January: Stubbing Pond (SK3667) The first winter drake Scaup still present. A drake Goosander and a Pink Footed Goose on Jan 18th with a Peregrine Falcon over on Jan 19th.

14 January: Drakelow WR (SK2220) Woodcock, 2 Stonechat, Chiffchaff and a Treecreeper in song. The road to the Reserve is still under water in one area so we still recommend that visitors continue to leave vehicles in the car park near the gatehouse and walk in.

13 January: Ogston Res (SK3760) A Great Grey Shrike by the main car park at 1.30 p.m. No further sign by late afternoon but a first winter Glaucous Gull and an adult Yellow Legged Gull roosted.

13 January: Carsington Water (SK2552) At least 1 juv. Great Northern Diver at Millfields with the Black Necked Grebe from Paul Stanley Hide at least up to dinner time. A first winter Yellow Legged Gull on Flat Island late afternoon.
