- Hilton (SK2331) - A singing male Cettis Warbler was discovered this afternoon by Max Radford on a private fishing pond, Hall Croft Fisheries just west of Hilton. The bird was singing every few minutes from a thick hedge which bordered one side of this pond. Earlier it had been in osiers round the egde of the pool where Max did have a couple of views of this bird. The landowner was approached about access but was adamant that he did not want birders on this site. Unfortunately, despite earlier optimism that the bird can be heard from a lay by on the A50 just west of Hilton on the westbound carriageway, a check Sunday confirmed that this is not possible due to the noise and danger from A50 traffic and the need to walk back to the east side of Sutton Brook (definitely not recommended). There is no access whatsoever to this site for birders. This is the second county record following on from the Drakelow WR record in late May 1999.
