June/July highlights

A remarkable range of birds for the summer months with far more wader, gull and tern species than might be expected whilst the influx of Common Scoter was also very notable, as was good numbers of Common Crossbill.

A Red-footed Falcon pleased many and a few birders connected with two wandering Common Cranes but a Great White Egret was all too brief and four White Storks were, sadly, not available to us.

We have grown to expect plenty of Little Egret and Red Kite records but the decline of Turtle Dove and Corn Bunting makes every record rather precious.

Breeding success seems to have varied from species to species although overall, results may be better than the poor weather suggested. It was good to get a few Quail records even if seeing one remains totally a matter of luck.
