This is a news service only and the reports are unchecked. All records submitted via the "Submit record" page will be sent to the Bulletin Bird Notes Compiler and entered onto the DOS database even if they do not appear here. Please note that for obvious reasons we do not publish sightings of rare breeders such as Little Ringed Plover during the breeding season (unless obvious migrants)

June/July 2013 highlights
The find of the month was arguably the Marsh Warbler at Carsington Water, although a Black Stork would have delighted many of us had it taken up residence for a few days and Golden Orioles and a Red-backed Shrike will be excellent additions if confirmatory notes can be obtained. Black-necked Grebe and a singing Black Redstart were other excellent finds and there were further sightings of the Great White Egret reported in May.
Waders and wildfowl involved both late departures and early returners although a June Goldeneye is a real novelty and weather conditions were surely responsible for the fall of Common Scoter. There was plenty of variety amongst the gulls and terns and another record number of Red Kite sightings.
Hirundine numbers seemed lower, as appeared the case with some warbler species, and Turtle Dove records are now very scarce but Cetti’s Warblers continued their colonisation and Little Egrets must breed here soon.
The team at Carsington produced some impressive counts of more common birds, as did Andy Lane in a number of the dales.
