This is a news service only and the reports are unchecked. All records submitted via the "Submit record" page will be sent to the Bulletin Bird Notes Compiler and entered onto the DOS database even if they do not appear here. March 2021 highlights

With travel restrictions lifted slightly, more sites were accessible and that revealed long-stayers still with us. Those included Great Northern Diver, Cattle Egret, Ring-necked Duck, Red-necked Grebe and Slavonian Grebe. The appearance of a Black-necked Grebe at Ogston Res then gave us a remarkable “five grebe” month.

Bitterns showed at two sites, there was a splendid passage of Whooper Swans and all three species of white egrets were well reported.

Waders included Avocets, Knot and Turnstone whilst an influx of Kittiwakes gave us ten gull species for the month plus an early report of a Sandwich Tern.

There was much interest in the first waves of summer visitors with several Ospreys, the three expected hirundine species, Wheatears, Common Redstarts and a number of warblers.

The star find amongst the rarities was undoubtedly the female Bearded Tit found at Carr Vale. All in all, an excellent month.
